Dr. Ramon Sanchez-Iborra gave a Key-note Speech yesterday at Global IEEE 5G-IoT Summit Tangier about his research in relation to the IoTCrawler titled: “5G Network Slicing for Iot”.
The Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as a key horizontal technology enabler within the 5G ecosystem, characterized by supporting the heterogeneity of end-devices, radio-access technologies, and services. Network slicing techniques allow to configure dedicated networks with assured resources to specific users or applications over a common physical infrastructure. Although many efforts have been devoted to developing network slicing procedures for services framed within the evolved Mobile Broadband (eMBB) and Ultra-Reliable, Low-Latency Communication (URLLC) families, massive Machine-Type Communication (mMTC) applications also require specific treatment for addressing their network requirements. In this talk, the key challenges for implementing 5G network slicing schemes for IoT will be discussed. A general overview of current proposals will be provided as well as some potential solutions. Finally, a real 5G network slicing framework for IoT will be presented.
